About

Lloyd Electric Co., Inc., a third-generation company, was originally founded by J. Lewis Lloyd in Roanoke, VA, in the early 20th century. Norfolk and Western Railway located to Roanoke in the late 19th century and this sleepy little community quickly became a boon town. Lloyd Electric, which started as Barnett & Brubaker in 1920, came about in response to this and other industries that sprang out of a rapidly growing economy.

This family-owned business grew steadily, with J. Lewis’s son, Dean, joining him in 1955 and Dean’s sons, Rick and Robert, joining the company in the 1978 and 1985 respectively. In 1987, the business that started in Roanoke expanded to Harrisonburg, VA, which was in the midst of rapid industrial expansion.

“It’s an honor to carry on the quality and customer service commitments that were important to my father and my grandfather,” says Harrisonburg president, Robert Lloyd. His brother, Rick, Roanoke’s president, agrees, adding, “Advances in technology have changed the motor industry dramatically, but some things never change. People want a quality product and dependable service. That’s been our commitment for almost 100 years.”
